We hv a califont gas heater that heats as we use it but uses water to get the water hot first so I hv installed a bypass pipe so that the water reticulates back to the main tank until it's hot enough... Just a pipe Cut in using an under bench tap to turn it off and on.. From the hot water tap pipe back to the tank.. We hv separate drinking water.

My equal half thinks I am nuts keeping fuel records so to make the situation worse by calculating gas consumption with several variables would have her consign me to an institution.... She know I love spreadsheets, but in this case, turn it on 20 Minutes before the first shower and off soon after the last provides plenty of hot water.

Like most others we turn it on when we get up, by the time we have had breakfast its hot enough for our two showers and breakfast dishes. It then normally stays off until the next morning as we use the left over hot water from the jug to do the day dishes.
