There are quite a few portable chargers with a 2.1 amp output, Mark.
Even a 1 amp unit would still charge your cellphone though - it would just take over twice as long, that's all.
I have noticed that some of these chargers quote a "Nominal Capacity" of 30,000 mAh, a "Capacity Range" of >20,000 mAh and a "Useable Capacity" of 15,000 mAh.
One user of a 30,000 mAh unit claimed it was able to charge his Samsung Galaxie S3 15 times.
There is another 30,000 mAh unit with a built-in solar panel - would that be of any use to you?
Being a fairly small solar panel (about 100mm x 70mm) input would have to be quite low, of course.

If I was to purchase locally, one of of these would be worth a gamble:

No endorsement of any kind. I have never seen one but they look OK.

Or China if you prefer:

Dimensions and weight are often a fair guide unless they have substituted some battery cells with stones. :?
If the details are correct they weigh the same as my power banks.

PS: I'm a sucker. Ordered one for my collection via Trademe.

Thanks Nevilles ( :) )

There certainly are lots to choose from. I must admit to being a sucker for anodised aluminium, so when the time comes I'll probably go for one of those on the AliExpress site  (if I can satisfy myself on their output capacity) but won't do anything for a few weeks now because we'll be away at about the time a unit might be delivered from China.

If I can find one that will charge my phone maybe 3 times, I don't think I'd need the solar powered version (besides, what would be even more depressing than tramping in the rain, is to be tramping in the rain and unable to recharge your GPS because it's raining :o ).

In that case you need one of these:

Or if its overnight camping involved then one of these:

But then again I think carrying a small power pack would be much easier......

Now, Neville, those options are just vulgar - besides at least aluminium is light :)

Shilo - don't want to buy the company :D

I have a battery case for my cellphone (3200mah external battery case power bank Flip case for Samsung Galaxy S3) - adds somewhat to weight and size but easily doubles the charge life of the phone. As a back up when out of power sources I also have a 2600mah Portable External power bank.
