Thought I'd float this one...

Is there anybody out there using LED bulbs in their (240V) house?
Anybody using LED replacements for standard sized bayonet fitting bulbs?

If so:
How have you found them?
Where did you get them?
Do you intend to convert any more of your household lighting to LED?

Mark, I will follow this thread with interest. Our son whose main hobby is home automation, all controlled by his I Pod, I Phone or I Pad has great interest in LED lighting. We have a few test units working in our house at present and as a result have just ordered ten 5w replacement units for all the 12V halogen 25w downlights. They use "cree" led's and have amazing lens technology that effectively eliminates the issues of the relatively narrow beam width. They provide a brighter light with a wider spread using only 20% of the current. Estimate a two year pay pack time frame which does not take into account the relatively short life expectancy of the halogen units.

These units are being sourced through Australia and are expected to be around NZ$45.00 each. We are still being used as a test mule on these units, and I do not have manufacturer or supplier details available at this stage.

Ben, our son has several different 230V units on trial, the majority of which are dimmable, but at this stage light output for the $ invested does not stack up all that well. By enlarge these higher output units are large strange looking units that require their own specialised fittings.

Cheers Chris

I get flooded with emails from Chineses manufaturers of LED's to my nzmotorhome account.
But I know nothing about them, so am reluctant to stick my (conservative) toe in the water, until I do.
It'd difficult to ask questions (no, more, its difficult to get understandable answers) from these suppliers.

I followed a link which was sent to me recently, for 240volt LED's, some of them looked promising but they were all screw fit not bayonet fit and they didn't have any as bayonet fitting ones so I binned the link.

They did look a bit strange, but then so did the twisty tube ones we now use at first.

There is a great LED supplier in Hamilton. They have just moved their business from Dunedin and I have bought from their internet site. They supply all motorhome, caravan etc bulbs, have 12v floods for outside as well as strip & bar lighting, I put the bar lights in my van and changed the bulbs out and they were great. They also sell house lighting, both screw & bayonette fitting and do garden etc etc.

Site details: www.ledstuff.co.nz
Address: 7 Colombo Street Hamilton

Oh and if you put "NZMCA" in the "coupon" box they give you 10% discount.
