Tauranga Airport Dump Station

Postby Nut17 » Thu Sep 24, 2015 2:57 pm

Went there this morning (3rd time in seven days) and waited 20 minutes for a large American 5th wheeler to fill with fresh water. The owner of the rig was apologetic and explained that council staff members were busy replacing both the dump station and potable water taps when he arrived. Result, is both taps are now the push and hold down variety with a very restricted flow rate. 2 - 3 litres per minute maximum !! Pathetic and useless for rinsing the dump station after use, not to mention the time required to fill fresh water tanks. This is a shame as this is a well located site and has really good access for large rigs.

Maybe the big rig availability has driven their water useage through the roof?

Who DOES pay for dump station water anyway? Local council (rates)?

Smilie will have a gadget to hold the tap on. Hopefully she will share.
I use the dump station by the refuse station at Greerton. It always has paper caught up in the grill. I waste more water trying to clear the grill and chase wayward logs than I use in a day in my motorhome. The flush function is a good idea though.

A strategicly placed cable tie can easily be fitted to these taps, but for what purpose? The newly restricted flow rate makes the site unhygienic and unsuitable for filling fresh water tanks.

To hold those silly taps in, use a length of the double sided Velcro, even an old belt cut down works.

:) R and B's Velcro idea works for us but doesn't assist the slow water flow. Great water supply and dump station at Kinloch Chris!
