We have a Nissan UD with a 11.67lt motor. We have an 11 ton sticker (which is the weight of the bus as well) and tow a Kia Sportage - 1,700kg - and get 3-4 km to the litre, depending on what sort of hills we are climbing, or not.

1999 Isuzu NPR250A with 4HG1 engine, 4.6 litre direct injection. Automatic gearbox with electric overdrive, lockup on two top gears. 4600kg all up weight. 170,000 km on clock. Like to keep it around 2000- 2500 rpm to keep the noise down in the cab while maintaining good torque.

At 80-85 km/h it does a fairly reliable 15.6 litres/100km almost anywhere, but if we're in a bit of a hurry or there are a lot of hills it has been known to get up to 16.8 litres/100km.

As long as it just keeps going without needing repairs or any special attention we aren't too fussed that it's not the fastest or most economical van around. Diesel is relatively cheap compared to mechanical repairs!

Heres something a little different !My 2005 Nissan Civilian 7 metre 4.5 litre 173hp PETROL fuel injected auto transmission with overdrive ( approx3.9 tonnes) does 19.3 Litres per 100km @ 90 kmph .A noticable improvement in fuel economy @ around80/85 kmph which I prefer to drive at as long as I am not holding people up too much.Very quiet and smooth.Approx 68/70 decibels(drivers seat) @90kmph against 82/84 decibels 4.2l Coaster.(hearing protection recommended @ 85 decibels plus)

We have a 2007 Isuzu NQR 5.2 litre diesel and up until June this year we were averaging about 17 litres per 100km and when towing our SX4 it adds another 1 or sometimes 2 litres per 100km if we're in hilly country. Must check it out again from next fill - thank goodness it doesn't cost quite as much now!

Our previous camper, a 3.6l Mitsubishi Canter with probably nearly 4.5 tonnes, got somewhere between 14-16 l /100kms. Sort of depended on speed etc.
Our new 2008 5.2l Isuzu 5.2l with maybe 8 tonnes has so far got about 20 l /100kms or 5 kms /l. That's about what we expected. We'll need to do our checking of consumption over summer when we're not using the diesel heating since that comes off the same tank.
