Hi 22y. We have a 7.2 metre caravan and the one D2 Eberspacher is more than up to the task. I cannot see that you would need two if you have two outlets to the heater (duct one down to the back - well insulated). Check Trademe #874730222 and plenty of others at present. Cheers.

Recently installed a 5kw one of these. From memory around $700 landed here. Initially had a problem getting it to start. After some consultation with the Chinese manufacturer they sent out a new control switch. Turns out it was a 6 pin connector not coupling properly on 2 pins. It definitely cranks out the heat and once in cruise mode it's relatively quiet. I still have work to do to fully close it off so It should be fairly innocuous once everything is finished

Please keep us updated on your ongoing experience/findings with it Jack. We are considering one ourselves, likely for next winter rather than this coming one but you never know. Our recently purchased van has a Propex Gas heater in it which seems to work ok - obviously not tested thoroughly in cold weather as yet, so there is no hurry for us to do something different, but will likely head the diesel heater route at some stage.

These babies can be noisy. The fan is the main culprit. It's located at the air inflow end and can really push some air at full noise. It's goes thru a noisy kind of start up phase, goes quiet while the glow plug brings the heat exchanger up to temp then gradually increases fan speed depending on your temp setting. The higher the setting the harder it will run for longer.

What I've found with mine is that it has a sweet spot temp setting wise. I've had the unit running through an AMP meter to get an idea of power consumption. At full throttle the glow plug and fan will pull just under 5A @ 24v. That doesn't last much more than a minute or less and then settles down to around 2.5A as the fan pushes heat to bring everything up to temp. If you dial the temp back the Amps drop back to around 0.3-0.5 which is OK for continuous use (around 15w/hr). The colder things are and the less efficient your insulation the harder you will have to run the heater to get your desired temp setting.

Over winter I'm going to work on noise insulation to get it down to something that's barely noticeable hopefully. To give you some perspective the noise level at cruise is comparable to your standard electric 2kW floor based fan heater.

Our last van also had a Propex Gas heater in it which was bit noisy as well, Murray went and got some noise cancelling foam, very much like the egg carton mattress foam toppers, and lined the box with it, we were very pleasantly surprised at how much that helped.

I just stuck it in with spray on ados glue.
