New satellite dish coming

Postby BrownBear » Sat Oct 10, 2015 9:06 am

I was down at Kea in Albany the other day getting some parts to fix my fresh water system after my water pump packed a sad , and the young guy there was telling me about to new satellite dishes coming onto the market. One is a dish one side and a solar panel on the other. The other will be a internet capable dish. Apparently the size for the internet dish was the problem they had to be to big, but the boffins have now figured out how to make one smaller and be reliable. Not sure when they arrive.

So the dish can face northish and the panel south-ish - Not being too pedantic about actualy angles, but do you get good solar from the deep south :-T

I guess it does one or the other but is incapable of doing both at once.

This shouldn't matter too much. You generally watch TV at night........

I guess when it is down it becomes another solar panel.Maybe not South Islander compatible, but then North islanders quite often aren't. :-T

As a solar panel, it could/would be angled toward the sun.
The further South you go, the greater the advantage of being able to do this.

But that one's a ludicrous NZ$6327.72 !
I have according removed this from my "must have" list.
It's the same old story. So long as you have the rooftop real-estate to spare, it is more cost-effective to simply slap on another flat panel than to muck around with tilting arrays, portable panels or expensive solar tracking setups.
