But surely if the sleeping area is an entirely separate room, then the califont isn't IN it?

You can die just as fast and easily in your lounge area as you can in your bedroom.

I believe the law sayes not in a bed room or living area, if you were just to have a door in between then surely it would need to be sealed to meet the law.
At the end of the day it is your s and the gas fitters call on how, if and where you can or cannot install your califont. Personally i don't like them at all and barring price they have no advantage over a legal unit, i would suggest you sell your califont on TradeMe and start again. Call it law change or learning mistake but you and your family will be around in time to come to tell the story.

Ok, since I love the instant water/gas heated idea (haters gonna hate...) and already have the califont I've been thinking of other ways to make this work, sealed cupboard is still an option (another gas cubby effectively) but as I have a large area behind the right back wheel arch of my bus with a meter gap to the rear radiator and well vented along the entire outer wall (FOR the rear radiator)...
Any "gas reg" reason I can't locate it there?

1) sealed from interior,
2) more than 1.5m behind gas cubby/diesel tank
3) plenty outside ventilation
4) never in use when radiator needs cool air either

Thoughts?

The link doesn't work for me and in any case (notwithstanding it's breaching copyright):
    a) It's a link to Part 1 of the standard which is for fixed installations and not part 2 which is for caravans
    b) It is the 2010 version of the standard and the current version is 2013
    c) It is not the regulations but a code called by the regulations

The Califont is location inside and vented through the roof on a Toyota Coaster. Now that I have read the forum I am concerned. We have just purchased this vehicle and it was already fitted. It looks like it is a 2015 model and therefore it is after the 2013 rules about not having them inside. Can anyone advise where we go from here if it has been fitted illegally as I believe the costs are high to fix or should I say correct :o ps.newbees
