I have repaired a damaged AL-KO drop down stay which included grinding off 2 x 45mm welded joints which now need to be rewelded. I suspect I’ll run up against minimum rates ($) at any of the city engineering works & wondered if anyone knows of a contact in Chrustchurch who will do the job for smoko tin money? It’s a marginal exercise anyway as a new one is around $90 :D
The circular section with the holes needs to be welded back onto the box section post.

To save time and also make it easier for the bloke holding the welder, Grind off all the galv for 10mm around the weld site and where the box tube butts onto the round plate. That is a piece of cake job for a bloke with reasonable welding skills and a home welder. Good luck.

How did you get on John? I thought that as an airline pilot you may have been able to coax the Air NZ workshops into doing a "cashie" :-T :)
