The self containment regs seem to stipulate that the (grey) drain hose is stored in a sealed container, but I believe I’ve heard on here that some people use an open pipe slightly bigger than their hose slung underneath the vehicle?

In order to fit a second cassette into my ‘dirty’ locker, I’m looking to store my 5mx 25mm hose in a 5mx40mm aluminium pipe I have ‘lying around’ and attach it under my 8m bus... is there any reason I can’t do this and still pass CSC?

Also, has anyone got a good way to secure the hose inside the pipe, as it simply loves to slither out the end in my mock-up install?

Hi,

I think you will find the Self Containment rules say your drain hose has to be 3 meters long.

You could save a bit of hassle by shortening yours down to 3 meters?

I have three hoses. A 1 metre, 3 metre and 5 metre. The two longer ones fit up inside the chassis rails and are held in place by the plastic clips (Mitre 10 Mega) mounted with a bracket onto the rear bumper mounts. The 1 metre hose simply sits on top of one of the other hoses and has not fallen out yet. :-T It is the hose most commonly used.

I have seen (and failed for CSC) many a fresh water hose and grey waste hose loose in the same locker, mainly caravans.

As long as there is (sealed) separation between the two to prevent cross contamination in day to day use, the grey hose container, locker or whatever works for you should be OK for CSC.

Confession time here. Shoot me now. :?

Our grey water hose has been tucked away in its "sealed" container unused for about the last 2 years.
I now just drain our grey water into a 10l paint bucket and pour it directly into the dump point.
Typically with our frequent dumping this is often only 3 or 4 refills. The largest ever was 9 despite our 180l reservoir.
No spillage occurs. ;)
