+1 Rosemary. We need a 'like' button on posts.

The discussion next summer is going to be interesting as more and more New Zealanders find their corner of paradise is overrun....

Rosemary, many DOC Campgrounds are free.

I have seen people in commercial camp grounds head to the bushes rather then towards the toilet block... Some people are just that lazy. Also the more alcohol drunk, the more likely the bushes would be used.

Most problems with freedom campers occur when ever increasing numbers are being forced into a increasingly shrinking number of sites. If region wide freedom camping was allowed, with only bans or restrictions in a few highly problematic spots then many of the issues would evaporate and we would stop seeing facilities being overloaded. Most polluting of rest stops and reserves is done by day trippers or feral locals... yet there has not been widespread ban and instant fines targeting them.

Perhaps its time for the NZMCA to become front runners in the support of these freedom camper sites and make it compulsory for all members to make available the toilets and showers on their own vehicles for other peoples use at these free sites. It would set an example to all those locals being NIMBY that there truly is no cost to anyone providing support to freedom camping in NZ.

Lets meet the challenge head on!! :TU :TU

Yeah right.
Csc is for a certified number. 5 French or Germans would use my fresh and grey water in half an hour.
Mind you if 10 Swedish blondes stripped down, I wouldn't mind hosing them down. :Y

It costs quite a bit to keep our vehicles on the road. There's no way we would allow ours to be used as a free public toilet facility, especially when you see the mess that these are often left in.
