Roy, that is great to hear, many thanks for chasing this up, it's a gem of a spot! More importantly did you catch any fish? Some nice sea-run browns around those lower reaches and a tourist landed a 6kg Salmon when I was last there!

Unfortunately Kapiti Coast DC is one of those councils that have chosen not to adopt the Freedom Camping Act regime and have just established a policy under their public places bylaw (LGA) that allows them to open or close FC sites on a whim. Have a look at their bylaws if you want to get a feel for one of the most over-governed districts in NZ. No wonder they're dysfunctional.
