Cheers mattn, But i have been in touch with the last owner who has towed it for the last 8 years. He's had no issues at all and regular services. When he bought it from the suzuki dealer, they advised him he was able to flat tow it and suggested a start up every 200-300km's. This was also backed up by the suzuki distributer for nz. So i can only trust one way and if it fails..then i'll get it fixed and carry on.
No of course i wouldn't run the engine with no oil pump....That would be silly now wouldn't it!! :?

Don't know if it helps much.
Although the gearbox pump is not turning there should be enough oil being splashed around inside the gearbox to at least keep all the moving bits wet, .

We are new to this forum but we are considering a vehicle to tow behind our new Auto-Trail Dakota which has a tow limit of 1250kgs... a Suzuki Jimny would be ideal in pretty much all respects. I noticed this thread has not had any new posts since 2013 so I am assuming that the participants have been successfully towing their Jimny's since that date, yes/no. Any updates on the issues with flat towing? Preferably I would like to buy a new or very late model Jimny or possibly a Suzuki Carry truck.

Just run the vin number of the vehicle you are interested in passed Rodney Brown at Suzuki, Palmerston North, he will say yes or no.

His email is [email protected]

Hi Mike

Grant's advice is good. My update is that I've now flat-towed our 2008 manual Jimny for 30K+ km since new and driven it for a further 63K+ km and no issues. Just replaced the tyres last week after a combined 96K km and always ensure to stop and run the engine for a few minutes every 200-300km of towing. Can't say what you should or shouldn't do, but I have no complaints.
