Ohhh, I am a bit partial to food too so, if we can make it, might even get there early enough to go to both events. Time we caught up with you Chris and Marg, since we missed you before we sold our home and pop in Mapua.

I did phone the Feilddays office last year but got the impression that the organisation was totally disinterested .. refferred me to possible parks in Cambridge and Te Kuiti etc. Guess the event is so very popular now days that they no longer need to be seen to make any effort to accommodate :? .

We have now got things in order at home so will definitely be attending the Fieldays this year, overnighting in Taupo (NZMCA POP) on Monday 11th and heading on up to Mystery Creek on Tuesday morning, hoping to find a suitable park nearby.

Unless someone can advise a nice spot closer to Fieldays, we intend to arrive late Thursday and base at Mighty River Domain in Karapiro for a couple of nights. Site info says $14.00/person non power ($16.00 power) and will take the bikes as I believe the cycleway to Cambridge is now complete.

Hi Andrew, We usually spend Wednesday and Thursday there and move on on Friday morning. This is usually dependant on the weather !!

I have just received this email reply from Cambridge Information Centre, after having been referred to them by Fieldays Admin re my enquiry for available motorhome parking this year, opposite event entrance as in previous years:

"Hello Mark

We understand this facility is not available anymore.

There are motor camps in Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Hamilton or the closest Freedom camping spot to Mystery Creek is at Lake Ngaroto located off Ohaupo Road between Te Awamutu and Hamilton.

Kind regards,

Rachael Colgan

So, we may give it a miss this year as we can only guess that driving out to the event from other locations will be as painful as ever in slow stop/start traffic, as we have experienced a few years ago. We even found the free bus trip another year just as painfully slow. Maybe somebody can tell me this has improved since, which may change my mind to consider staying at another close location.
