Took a "Tiki Tour" through there in the Cruiser with a mate a couple of months back for a laugh. A nice couple have just re-opened the store there as a Café. I would highly recommend the drive through from Matawai to Opotiki on a nice day following a long spell of good weather. (A bloke - Lee Clarke, has opened an adventure cycling business taking bikes up to the "Tops" for a good downhill run back toward the coast and the "Dunes Trail". Bike Rental, drop off and pick up. He also does Dune trail returns as well.) Road is definitely not for the faint hearted or those in long vehicles (over 9 meters) towing anything longer or wider than a teardrop as getting past anyone coming the other way can be a bit of a challenge. You can understand why engineers wished to place a Hydro-Station at the falls site though. Thank God that will never happen nowadays. Sorry Chris - stuck without a photo again. Cheers.
