Use the right stuff - Sikaflex 252, not the cheaper versions that are not as strong. Do it properly, proper prep work using Sika cleaners and follow instructions to the letter. The correct stuff is not cheap to buy, and there are cheaper products that appear to do the same job, but they are a lot cheaper buy than doing it a second time, defending a ticket for unsafe loading or worst case, a manslaughter charge.

In NZ you dont even get done for manslaughter if you are blind drunk and speeding and have an accident. Let alone using the wrong glue.
Am I missing out on something? what is wrong with putting a stiffener panel near the mounts and riveting it?

We have just had a roof full of panels attached by a Motorhome repairer solely using an adhesive sealant.
What you might like to consider as we did, is to attach one side of each panel with two stainless hinges.
Not only will it be easier to wire up they can be cleaned and painted underneath when necessary.

The hinge idea is good , appreciate all the advice received to date . Just trying to work out how to remove existing brackets so I can reconfigure layout . Dont want to damage roof trying to remove glue , any idea,s . ARTHUR

Hi Arthur ,what is your roof , alloy sheet or fibreglass .also how are the brackets fixed currently ,adhesive /screws or both . for adhesive a flat paint scraper (narrow) could help slide in between roof and glue . Hot air gun also might help .Any chance of a pic .

alluminium brackets screwed and glued . KEA 4BERTH FIBREGLASS BODY AND ROOF . Sorry dont know how to put photo,s up . Roof and body in good condition , had van for some years and only just clocked 90,000 km,s , many 2 and 3 day trips.

Arthur of the existing brackets haven't caused any leaks I would suggest grind them back as far as you need to so the new panels can fit over them and ignore them.

Exactly,if they don't leak don't touch them cut off the high side of the bracket and start afresh
Reseal around and over the old brackets, keep your new brackets
Away from the old ones
