My brother in law bought a kit to modify his bike. Hub drive.
Mech parts came quick.
Lithium batt was sea freight and took months. Lithium would not be air freighted.

Motor did burn out after a few months, and he couldn't get any warranty.

There is a chap in South Island Rangiora i think who has or had conversion kits.
I think it my be the same person the has had Lithium Batteries for sale
He may have had an ad on forum but all mine have dissapeared

I think this is the site you are referring to Lindsay. https://ecoquip.nz/ Arnie Larsen started his business selling and installing conversion kits which he still does. However he now sells a range of well specified eBikes at very competitive prices. I personally would not risk the current issues with freight out of China with an Aliexpress purchase of that value. I do have a friend who successfully imported an eBike through Aliexpress a couple of years ago, and he is a little concerned that the battery and controller are not common units available locally and could be an issue down the track.
The eBike business in NZ is extremely competitive and buoyant at present making any potential savings made by a private import a lot less viable.
